Karlovasi Marina - Samos Island
The port of Karlovasi together with the one in Vathi, are the two main marine facilities of Samos Island. Karlovasi port serves the connection between the northwest part of Samos and Piraeus, the Cyclades Islands, as well as the neighboring ones like Ikaria, Chios, Lesvos, Patmos and Fournoi, by providing a secure berth for ferries.
Apart from the above, the existing facilities were unable to serve touristic boats, especially after the remarkable increase of berthing demand, as a result of the general rise of tourism in Northeast Aegean Sea.
In 1999, the Greek National Tourism Organization held a contest for designing and constructing the new touristic harbor that was sited in the southeast area of the existing basin.
The consultant engineer Albert Paul Yamin designed the touristic harbor infrastructure both in final and implementation level, on behalf of the contestant contracting company IDRODYNAMIKH SA and subsequently, the selected to construct the harbor. The study was successfully completed in the same year (1999) and the project was constructed as well.
