Beach Nourishment in Panepistimio, Neapoli and Kratigos Sites - Mytilene Island

South of Mytilene Town, along the coastal road that leads to the airport and near Loutra, there are a lot of graphical and beautiful beaches such as Neapoli, Kratigos etc., which operate as an attraction for visitors, especially because of their closeness to the city. Nevertheless, the intense erosion tendency that occurs in the greater area, “hangs" as a great threat to the existing form of the beaches. In addition, and due to the continuous progress of the shore erosion phenomenon, the functionality and safety level of the coastal road are under question as well. The problem is even worse at the beaches of Panepistimio (Xenia), Neapoli (Istoriko) and Kratigos.

For all the reasons mentioned before and in order to halt the local adverse conditions, the former Municipality of Mytilene contracted, in 2008, consultant engineer Constantinos Yamin, the design of beach nourishment works. The study implemented the respective proposals of a research project conducted by the University of Aegean Sea. CNWAY participated in the final design of the works and the study was successfully completed in 2010.
