TRANSPORTATION AND ROAD ENGINEERING

Transportation is a field closely related to economical growth. The number of passenger and cargo movements is rising steadily, thus requiring careful planning to accommodate the increasing demand.

CNWAY actuates in the fields of land and air transportation and more particularly in transportation network design, terminal stations, airports, heliports and accompanying infrastructure.

Transportation

It is a fact that economical growth is accompanied with an increase in numbers of vehicle, passenger and cargo transit. This is amplified by the concentration of population in urban areas, and the increasing citizen mobility and goods consumption.

The increasing transportable load in urban and sub-urban areas is responsible for degradation in quality of life in major cities, especially in Greece . A solution to the problem, based on the existing town characteristics most of the Greek cities have, is the implementation of long-term policies based on qualitative and detailed design.

Aiming to provide environmental friendly solutions that enhance quality of life, CNWAY takes on projects that concern urban and rural road development, traffic management and improvement of light transportation (pedestrian precincts, bicycle tracks).

Light Transportation

Bicycle and pedestrian transportation expresses the popular trend for physical exercise and healthy living and respecting the environment at the same time. This means of transportation uses exclusively human energy and consequently contributes to conservation of fuel and reduction in air pollution. Furthermore, it contributes to the buildup of a healthy physical state, in a time our way of living necessitates minimal physical exercise with consequent adverse effects on human health. Also, reduction in traffic congestion in cities is an important aspect that benefits many sectors of socioeconomic activity.

In conclusion, it is advisable to improve the existing infrastructure and develop new so as to encourage light transportation networks and promote an environmentally friendly perception for transportation, especially in urban cities.

Parking Facilities / Terminal Stations

The urban and suburban transportation growth not only stresses traffic networks, but also increases the demand for parking space allocation. In Greek cities, the lack of sufficient provision of additional parking places to meet the increase in demand, puts much stress to communal spaces and downgrades the quality of life.

The currently implemented parking policy dictates that newly erected building must provide sufficient parking spaces for the occupants and that the municipality has the responsibility to provide adequate parking spaces in public or private areas. The urban and interurban transportation is also promoted by constructing relative infrastructure (parking spaces, terminal stations).

In order for any measure to work successfully, it requires apart from the political initiative, a competent design that is adapted to the specific circumstances the Greek cities face. CNWAY has considerable experience, proper infrastructure and mainly the sensitivity so as to provide realistic and effective solutions in designing parking facilities and terminal stations for the private and public sector.

Airports / Heliports

Passenger and commercial air commuting is growing rapidly and is estimated that this trend will continue in the following years. The timely arrival to your destination along with the quality of the provided services makes air transportation preferable among competitive means of transport. In Greece , the insular landscape and the large foreign tourist volume of the last years promote the development and the modernization of the Airport infrastructures.

In CNWAY, having early evaluated the developing perspectives of air transportation and invested in growing its scientific background and technical skills, so as to successfully actuate in airport design by participating in many important projects in Greece.
